Local runner Thomas McRobbie takes on a huge 2021 themed challenge in aid of Charlie House and CLAN.

Aberdeen-based runner Thomas McRobbie has taken on a huge 2021 themed challenge to raise money for two North-East charities, including Charlie House. Charlie House supports babies, children and young people with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions and their families in the North-East of Scotland.

Thomas has committed to completing a minimum of 2021 kilometres of running throughout the year of 2021 with a target of raising £500 for Charlie House and CLAN. He has already surpassed this target, with £711.42 raised so far via Virgin Money Giving.

Speaking of the challenge, he has said, “After such a rubbish year, I wanted to do something to raise money for two charities that are important to me.”

Jenna Simpson, Fundraising Coordinator for Charlie House, has spoken of Thomas’ fundraising efforts so far, saying, “We are delighted to see Thomas taking on this incredible challenge in aid of Charlie House. Now more than ever, we need people to take part in fundraising so we can continue our work and to support babies, children and young people and their families. We would like to thank Thomas for his efforts so far and wish him good luck as he tackles the rest of the distance over the remainder of the year.”

The funds raised will enable Charlie House to continue its work and to support babies, children and young people with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions and their families in the North-East of Scotland. Charlie House has a range of services and fundraising activities including The Big Build Appeal, a public fundraising campaign to raise £8million for a specialist support centre being built on the grounds of Woodend Hospital. The centre will have 8-bedrooms, with additional family accommodation, set in 4 acres of ground. The state-of-the-art building will feature a sensory room, library, spa pool, craft room, teen den, soft play area, therapy room, star room, for end-of-life care & bereavement, outdoor play area and sensory gardens as well as adaptable meeting space and office space for the Charlie House team and medical staff.

Charlie House’s services which are currently being run virtually include activity clubs, siblings’ clubs, support from the Charlie House Community Nurse, one-to-one emotional and practical support from the Children & Family Support Manager. It is hoped that their bi-annual adventure trip to Kielder Forest Park, run by the Calvert Trust returns following easing of lockdown and ongoing restrictions and when it is safe to do so.
