Staff Spotlight - Ivana

Meet Ivana, Event Fundraising Coordinator at Charlie House!

Ivana first joined Charlie House as the Event Fundraising Coordinator in March 2020, with a passion for event organising and a determination to support a good cause. However, the beginning of her journey with us was not as we had anticipated as she started just three days before the global pandemic that saw so many working from home. This was a whirlwind of a beginning to her Charlie House journey, but she adapted quickly and took online event planning in her stride.

“We did a few virtual events over the course of the year,” Ivana says of her beginning with us, “The biggest challenge was not being with the rest of the fundraising team to bounce ideas off or to get their experienced input while planning.”

Everyone at Charlie House was delighted when we could start considering in-person fundraising events again. Of course, Ivana and the fundraising team got straight to work considering our options for the remainder of 2021. The first in-person event was the Summer Solstice Golf Challenge, where participants were challenged to take on a mighty golfing feat of 4 rounds (72 holes) of golf to be completed in one day.

The event was a roaring success that raised over £7,000 towards Charlie House and our work with families in the north east of Scotland. Speaking about the Summer Solstice Golf Challenge, Ivana says “It was fantastic to finally be out and about speaking to people and meeting some of the wonderful Carlie House supporters.”

As you can see from these smiling faces, the team were delighted to be back and face-to-face again.

In October, Ivana not only found herself organising an event but also taking part as she climbed to the peak of Ben Nevis at night. This was not an easy challenge, especially as weather conditions were particularly bad during the weekend but Ivana and everyone involved faced it head on. Speaking of taking part, Ivana added, “This was a massive challenge for everyone taking part. I was pretty nervous, but it ended up being so rewarding and all of the challengers seemed to really enjoy it. It’s always great when you can see the results of the plans you’ve worked so hard on!” The Ben Nevis at Night challenge went on to raise an incredible £29,874.50 thanks to the hard work that everyone put in.

Within days of the Ben Nevis at Night challenge it was then time to start organising Charlie House’s busiest time of year, Christmas! Ivana jumped immediately into organising our popular Santa’s Workshop in partnership with our friends at Bon Accord and planning a festive Wreath Making Workshop hosted by Blooming Good Flowers which took place last week.

Ivana, along with the Charlie House fundraising team, have been supported by an incredible group of volunteers working as elves and Santa Claus himself. Together they have worked hard to bring festive cheer to children and families during such uncertain times.

Looking forward to next year, Ivana says, “I think it’s fair to say one of the things the Charlie House team is looking forward to most is an in-person staff night out next year when It’s safe for us to come together. I’m also hoping we make massive progress with our Big Build Appeal in 2022 and we get to see that first dig happen!”

Don’t forget to keep an eye out for more amazing events organised by Ivana coming up in 2022.

FUN FACT: Ivana has played the drums for over ten years and dreamed of being a rockstar growing up! Did someone say Charlie House drumming event?
