Children’s Charity Expands Services Thanks to Local Businesses

Charlie House announces move to provide accessible services to North East families

Local children’s charity Charlie House has announced a relocation to Balmoral House in the heart of Aberdeen’s west end. Let by Knight Property Group, the space provides a home for the charity’s important work to support children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions in North-east Scotland.

The property extends over four floors, providing ample space for Charlie House staff and volunteers to return to the office after years of working from home.

Chair and Founder of Charlie House, Tracy Johnstone spoke of the move and the difference it will make, saying “Over the next three years, Balmoral House will provide us with a base to deliver and grow the services of Charlie House, as well as run our ‘Big Build Appeal’ to raise the £8million to build a specialist support centre for families here in Aberdeen.”

We are very grateful for the continued support we receive from Knight Property Group and The Barrack Charitable Trust who helped make this move possible – and of course to Thorpe Molloy McCulloch Recruitment who hosted our previous office for the past five years.”

The charity has also received outstanding support from many local businesses who have ensured the new office is fully equipped and ready to welcome families and volunteers onsite.

“We have been blown away by just how many people wanted to help.” said Tracy.

The charity has applauded a number of local businesses who generously offered their services free of charge including ASPC and Shell who generously offered furniture and local locksmith John Mutch.

Like most charities, directing vital funds to provide services to the community is a priority, which has been greatly assisted by Corporate Moves, Aberdeen locals Kore, Mackenzie Fire, Keenan Recycling, One Stop Waste and Tidy Green Clean who all provided services at a discount to make the move possible.  

Charlie House’s Children and Family Support Manager, Leigh Ryrie, is elated to have a dedicated space to deliver the important services Charlie House provides, expressing her thanks to the community for pulling together.

“Finding a venue which was suitable and accessible with plenty of room to provide support to families beyond our existing services has always been of the utmost importance,” she said.

“We wanted to give them a private and safe space where they could receive emotional support whenever they need it, where children and their siblings could come to play and talk.

We are so delighted to be able to do this from Balmoral House.” says Leigh.

The charity says that the move will make a huge difference to the support they can provide and will have a profoundly positive impact on families in the North East who access their services. Tracy Johnstone concluded, “Charlie House’s office move is a fantastic showcase of the kindness of the North East community and the desire they have to help those who need it most.”
