The Critter Crew!

Meeting the Critter Crew

by Elin Styrbjorn, Activities Co-ordinator

With only four weeks left of the summer holidays, seven families were up for a real treat when The Critter Keeper and his crew came to visit Charlie House at the Glencraft café on Monday afternoon.

David and his Critter Crew treated some very excited families to a fascinating session full of surprises, happy shrieks and a startled mummy or two (the latter mainly caused by the salmon pink bird eating tarantula).

David started off the session by introducing Kermit the tree frog to the 20 curious attendees and continued the hour-long session by showing us one spectacular member of his crew after another.

Throughout the activity we had the absolute pleasure of meeting Marshmallow the giant lop eared rabbit, Kaa the royal python, a giant Madagascan hissing cockroach, Anastasia the horsefield tortoise, Sonic the African pygmy hedgehog and a giant African land snail (whom I’ve very rudely forgotten the name of).

Activities involving animals are always our most popular ones. The Critter Keeper session was fully booked within a couple of hours and during last week’s Activity Club session at the Hazelhead Pets Corner we had as many as 40 attendees. How fantastic is that?

Due to this, I really want to organise as many animal orientated activities as possible. Right now I’m looking to contact Canine Concern Scotland Trust and I’ve previously been in touch with organisations caring for owls and birds of prey across the North East of Scotland. However, if you or anyone you know have a fun animal oriented idea for an upcoming Charlie House Activities Club, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can do so by contacting me on or calling the Charlie House office on 01224 313 333.

And last but not least, I want to thank David and his crew for their amazing and very interesting session – both me and the families absolutely loved it!
