Nurse Jackie!

Charlie House Nurse P&J Feb 2017 3

I’ve been in post now for three months as the first member of Charlie House community team and it has been such a steep learning curve for me.  These weeks have been a whirlwind of meeting so many people who are involved in the care and treatment of children with complex needs and life limiting conditions. The first week I thought I would never remember everyone’s names and sometimes I still forget them!

Not only is it a great opportunity for me to be an employee for NHS Grampian, but also to be a community nurse for an amazing charity who strive to help and support families in the north east. Coming from working in a ward environment where there is a certain routine to becoming a community nurse has been so different and no two days are the same.  I have realised community nurses quite often prevent children coming back into hospital by giving treatment and advice at home.

I always love a challenge and am looking forward to eventually doing my first fundraising event for Charlie House…hopefully this year…watch this space… and also my second challenge is to eventually find my way around Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital without getting lost!
